Ian Desmond led the charge with a 3 for 4 day, scoring the Nats' first run in the 1st following a double and adding an insurance run with a solo homer in the 9th. Adam Laroche also had 3 hits, and scored the go-ahead run in the 8th off a single followed by a Rick Ankiel double. Gio Gonzalez earns his 3rd win of the year thanks to that 8th inning run. Tyler Clippard earns the save despite being tired from 4 innings of work in the Nats last 2 games. |

Ian Desmond went yard as the Washington Nationals bested the Cincinnati Reds 3
to 1 at Great American Bpk.
Washington won the game with a run in the 8th inning. Adam Laroche delivered
a one-base hit. After another out, Danny Espinosa got his chance to keep
things going, but he went down on strikes. Rick Ankiel then doubled. Wilson
Ramos followed, but he was set down on strikes. Cincinnati was retired
without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th.
The win went to Gio Gonzalez(3-1) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings. Tyler
Clippard recorded his 3rd save. Aroldis Chapman(4-1) took the loss in
relief. He pitched 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits and no walks.
