Jon Lester mowed down 10 Baltimore batters at Fenway Park where the Boston Red
Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 3 to 2.

Lester(2-1) looked very much in control throughout the night. He didn't give
up much, just 4 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Boston had 7 hits for the game
and Baltimore had 4.

Lester got help from Alfredo Aceves who was credited with his 2nd save. Matt
Lindstrom(0-1) was the loser in relief. When asked about his strikeout total
for the game, Lester offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to
see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately,
I kept them busy tonight - of course, it would be all for naught without the
'W'.'

May 2, 2012: A's 6 Red Sox 4 (11)

The A's get out front early, the Red Sox come back to tie it, but blow it in the 11th.

The A's led off the 11th with a walk off Alfredo Aceves, and quickly got the runner to 2nd on a steal. Kurt Suzuki singled and it looked like the tying run was going to cross the plate, but the throw from the outfield nails the runner at the plate and pickoff throw to first gets Suzuki. Suddenly a sure threat is 2 outs and the bases empty...but Aceves gives up a homer to Brandon Inge, then another single, steal, single and throwing error score another run.

In a good matchup it was the Oakland Athletics 6, the Boston Red Sox 4 in 11
innings at Fenway Park.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Oakland won the
hard fought contest in the 11th inning. Kila Ka'Aihue led off and got things
going when he drew a walk. Weeks stole second with some aggressive base
running. Kurt Suzuki then lined a base-hit. Alfredo Aceves then picked
Suzuki off first base. Brandon Inge came up to bat and lofted a solo-blast
'downtown'. Eric Sogard extended the rally and smacked a single. Oakland
continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Coco Crisp then
delivered a single, and an error was also committed. Oakland had a total of
11 hits for the game.

The win went to Pedro Figueroa(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Figueroa got help from Jerry Blevins who earned his 3rd save. Aceves(2-2)
was the loser in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 2 and 2/3 innings.

May 1, 2012: Netfali Feliz no-hits the Blue Jays!

Netfali Feliz has been successful as the Rangers closer for 2 years, but decided to try his hand at starting for 2012. In just his 4th career start, he accomplishes something that many starters go their whole career without - a no-hitter. A walk of Jose Bautista in the 1st inning and a 4th inning error are the only blemishes in a 4-0 win.

This is the first no-hitter of 2012 and the 29th no-no in my now 12 year SOM replay history.

Neftali Feliz(2-1) thrilled the fans at Rogers Centre as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Texas Rangers won by a final
score of 4 to 0.

Feliz was obviously at the top of his game as he set the Toronto batters down
like so many dominoes. He walked just one Toronto batter. The tension
started to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was
electrified. Texas had a total of 10 hits for the game.

The losing pitcher was Drew Hutchison(0-2). 'Feliz was simply incredible'
losing pitcher Hutchison said. 'I hate to admit this but I'd pay to watch a
man pitch like that'

May 1, 2012: Nationals 4 Diamondbacks 3

Jordan Zimmermann helps his cause with a couple hits, both scoring and knocking in a run to help offset the 3 runs he gave up over 6 innings. Roger Bernadina pinch hit for Zimmermann in the bottom of the 6th and knocked in the go-ahead run with a double, and the Nats bullpen makes the 4-3 win stick.

April 28, 2012: Nationals 8 Dodgers 1

The Nationals get back to their winning ways behind the phenom, Stephen Strasburg, who went 7 innings and struck out 10 en route to his 4th win. The story of the game though is the major league debut of another phenom, 2010 first overall draft pick Bryce Harper. Harper made his presence known early by throwing out a runner at the plate from left in the 1st inning, then hit an RBI double in his first at bat and scored on a single from the next batter. Harper walked in the third and scored another run, singled in the 5th, then struck out in his last two at bats.

Jayson Werth, Adam Laroche, Roger Bernadina, Wilson Ramos and Strasburg each also had 2 hits, and Ian Desmond cracked a 3-run bomb in the Nats' 6-run 2nd.

April 28, 2012: White Sox 10 Red Sox 5

Jon Lester's struggles continue as he gives up 5 runs over 5 innings and takes the loss. It got even uglier in the 6th once the Sox bullpen got involved - Vicente Padilla struck out the first batter he faced, but then allowed 4 straight hits. Three would score on Padilla's watch and the 4th would score on an Alex Rios double off Franklin Morales.

The loss snaps an 8 game winning streak for the Red Sox.

Center fielder Matt Kemp had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Clayton Kershaw had a
complete game at Dodger Stadium where the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers beat the
Washington Nationals 9 to 2.

Los Angeles(NL) took the lead for keeps in the 3rd inning plating one
baserunner utilizing 2 base hits. Los Angeles(NL) totaled 10 hits on the
night.

The win was credited to Kershaw(2-2) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Ross Detwiler(2-1) took the loss. Los Angeles(NL) knocked him around a bit,
as he gave up 5 runs in 4 innings.

April 27, 2012: Red Sox 8 White Sox 0

The Red Sox make it 8 straight wins with an 8-0 win over the White Sox. Daniel Bard almost went the distance for his first win as a starter, allowing just 4 hits over 8 2/3. The pitch count was getting a little too high so once a runner got on in the 9th, Rich Hill came in to get the game's final out.

The offense was showing its might early with 3 runs in the 1st on a 2-run homer from Dustin Pedroia and a solo shot from David Ortiz. Pedey had a big day, going 3 for 5 with 4 RBI. Mike Aviles did an excellent job setting the table ahead of Pedroia, reaching base all 5 times he came to the plate. Aviles was the first batter of the inning in the 1st, 3rd and 9th, and singled all 3 times, plus added 2 walks in between.

Second baseman Dustin Pedroia touched them all and had 4 RBI as the seemingly
unstoppable Boston Red Sox defeated the Chicago (AL) White Sox 8 to 0 at US
Cellular Field.

Pedroia provided the offensive punch. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 1st inning, lined a one-base hit in the 3rd inning and
doubled scoring two baserunners in the 4th inning. The pitchers took over
after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.

Daniel Bard(1-0) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. John
Danks(1-3) suffered the loss. He was touched for 10 hits and 2 walks in 3
and 2/3 innings.

It was another victory for Boston at US Cellular Field. Now their winning
streak stands at 8 games. Bobby Valentine was in a great frame of mind in the
clubhouse after the game, 'Everybody's contributing now. Timely hitting,
some slick fielding plays and good pitching when we need it. Man, when
that's happening, this sure is an easy job!'

single. Jesus Guzman stepped up next and he drew a walk. Venable then

Bud Black was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game
like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see the
fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
