April 16, 2012: Rays 9 Red Sox 3

The annual Patriots Day game turns ugly for the Sox, who gave up as many walks (10) as hits. Starter Daniel Bard struggled through his 2nd career start, walking 6 and failing to get out of the 5th.

James Shields mowed down 10 Boston batters and Ben Zobrist went deep and had 2
RBI at Fenway Park where the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox by the
score of 9 to 3.

The Boston fans didn't appreciate the big day Zobrist had. He tripled in the
2nd inning, doubled in the 6th inning and lifted one out of the park for a
two run home run in the 7th inning. Tampa Bay simply wore out the Boston
pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

Shields(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Fernando Rodney was credited with his 3rd save. Justin Thomas(0-1) took the
loss in relief.

Bobby Valentine was impressed with Shields and his 10 strikeouts. 'It's tough
to generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball.'
