Red Sox blow 10 run lead, lose 2012 opener 14-13

April 5, 2012: I know going into this season that 2012 was not a good year for the Red Sox. Then while playing this game the Sox put together a few good innings, leading 7-0 and 13-3 after their half of the 4th and 5th innings, respectively. I thought "maybe it won't be that bad".

Then I notice that Jon Lester can't seem to get outs in the 5th inning, and suddenly it's 13-8. That's ok, Franklin Morales gets a double play to end the inning after taking over for Lester.

Morales lasts until the 7th, when he gives way to Vicente Padilla after giving up a leadoff single to Prince Fielder. Padilla allows a Delmon Young single and a Ryan Raburn double, and now the tying run is on deck. I go back to the bullpen for Matt Albers, and he gives up a 3-run homer to Jhonny Peralta, and suddenly it's a one run game.

That lasted until the 8th, when Albers gave up a leadoff homer to Miguel Cabrera. Now the game is tied. Scott Atchison takes over, and gets to the 9th but leaves runners on 1st and 2nd and one out for Mark Melancon, who uncorks a wild pitch to move the runners up, gets a ground out from Cabrera, but then gives up a walk-off single to Fielder to complete the improbable comeback for the Tigers.

Maybe it's not going to be such a good year after all.
