April 9, 2012: Mets 3 Nationals 2

The Nationals take their first loss of the year at the hands of the Mets, although Edwin Jackson certainly pitched well enough to win in his Nats debut. The difference maker was an Ike Davis home run in the bottom of the 6th that gave the Mets a 3-0 lead.

The New York (NL) Mets edged the Washington Nationals at Citi Field by the
score of 3 to 2.

Mike Pelfrey(1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for New York (NL).
He went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 9 hits and 1 walk. Pelfrey whiffed an
impressive total of 8 Washington batters. Washington had a chance in the 9th
but they came up short.

Frank Francisco was credited with his 1st save. Edwin Jackson(0-1) was charged
with the loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 5 hits in 6 innings.

Davey Johnson was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really
hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is
easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely
get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
