| Strange to see an 11 inning game come in under the 3 hour mark, but that's what happens when there are just 3 runs and 10 hits combined between the two teams. The Astros get one run off just 2 hits off Nats starter Gio Gonzalez, but the Nats tie it up in the 8th with a pinch-hit RBI triple from Rick Ankiel, then win it in the 11th. Jesus Flores singled, moved to third on a single from pinch hitter Wilson Ramos, then pinch runner Steve Lombardozzi scored on Ian Desmond's game winning single. Tyler Clippard earned the win, and struck out 7 over 3 innings of work. |

Gio Gonzalez delivered 8 solid innings as the Washington Nationals topped the
Houston Astros in 11 innings by a score of 2 to 1 at Nationals Park.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Finally, Washington
pulled the game out in the 11th inning. Rick Ankiel banged out a single.
After an out was recorded, Jesus Flores came to the plate and slapped a
base-hit. Brandon Lyon then let one get away for a wild pitch. Wilson Ramos
came up and he lashed a single. Ian Desmond stepped into the box and stroked
a single making Washington the victors to the delight of the home town
faithful. Washington out-hit Houston for the game, 7 hits to 3.
