Will Venable had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at PETCO Park as the San Diego Padres
came back dramatically to top the Washington Nationals by the score of 4 to
3.

San Diego scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 base
hits. Mark Kotsay led off the inning for San Diego when he delivered a
single. Jesus Guzman stepped up next and he drew a walk. Venable then
tripled resulting in an exciting win for San Diego and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. San Diego finished with 9 hits while
Washington ended up with 6.

Ernesto Frieri(1-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Henry
Rodriguez(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 hit and 1 walk
in 1/3 of an inning.

Bud Black was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game
like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see the
fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
