2012 NL Postseason Awards

2012 NL MVP: Ryan Braun, Brewers (.318/47/130)

Braun is a repeat winner from 2011. He finished 9th in BA but finished 1st in homers, RBI and runs scored. 2nd place is Jay Bruce of the Reds (.275/44/119), who was 2nd to Braun in both homers and RBI. 3rd goes to Aaron Hill of the Diamondbacks (.317/28/94), who finished 10th in BA and scored 100 runs. 4th place belongs to Braun's teammate Aramis Ramirez (.327/31/118), who was 5th in BA, 3rd in RBI, tied for 10th in HR and led the league with 57 doubles. Rounding out the top 5 is Adam Laroche of the Nationals (.280/37/99), who was tied for 4th in HR and tied for 8th in RBI, and was the top slugger on the best team in the majors.

2012 NL Cy Young: Jordan Zimmermann, Nationals (20-5, 2.56, 167 K)

Zimmermann ended up being the most consistent and most dominant of the Nats' big three (Zimmermann, Gio Gonzalez, Stephen Strasburg), and was the majors' only 20 game winner. 2nd place goes to Cliff Lee of the Phillies (19-2, 2.27, 206 K), who led the league in ERA, was 5th in strikeouts, and missed a chance at that 20th win when I held him out of a start in the season's last game. See in real life the Phillies were out of it, while in my replay it made sense to line Lee up to start the winner take all wild card game against the Braves. 3rd place belongs to Lee's teammate Jonathan Papelbon (3-3, 2.72, 49 SV), who won the Cy Young last year in the American League. 4th place goes to another closer, Criag Kimbrel of the Braves (3-4, 2.38, 46 SV). When I list closers in the award voting I use saves as the 3rd slash line instead of strikeouts, although both Kimbrel and Paps are no slouches in that regard - Kimbrel has 126 and Paps had 103.  Rounding out the top 5 is the aforementioned Gio Gonzalez (13-8, 2.43, 214 K), who didn't get a lot of run support but finished 4th in ERA and tied for 3rd in strikeouts.
